Today was going to be the launch date of the first Food Geeking podcast. Early this afternoon, our good friend Joe Murphy lost his fight against cancer. Kris and I have decided to postpone the launch of the podcast out of respect for Joe, his family and his many, many friends.
Joe was a familiar voice to listeners of The Kick Ass Mystic Ninjas, The Dragon Page: Cover to Cover, Slice of Sci-Fi, and Michael and Evo's Wingin' It. His voice, intelligence, warmth and wit has touched many lives throughout the years both in the studio and via the podcasts in which he participated. Joe will be sorely missed.
Kris and I ask that Joe be remembered not through mourning, but through a toast. While Joe is not here to hoist a tankard with us, his legacy endures in all of us. Please join us in raising a glass in tribute to a rare individual and fine friend: Joe Murphy.

Drinks to Joe - absolutely!.. but how about drinks OF Joe
I've left a voicemail on Wingin' It with the same suggestion, so I hope this isn't too much of a repeat, repat, repatatatition.
I suggest that we should create a way to remember Joe on a regular basis! Three cocktails, as follows: the Mason Rocket, the Randy Inuendo and....the Letch Carson. Perhaps using a separate base for each: Limocello, Sake and Root Beer. Here's a starting suggestion - this is the desert version of the Randy:
-Cocktail glass
-Edge with Limoncello, dip into powdered sugar
-Place a nice sized serving of fresh marscapone in the glass
-Warm a light honey and drizzle over the marscapone, use a swizzle stick to draw the honey through but don't mix it in!
-Drizzle a little Limoncello around the inside wall of the glass, but don't flood the marscapone mix
-Optional: seive a bit more icing sugar over the desert
-Insert an Italian lady finger biscuit or a French cat's tongue into the mix (artistically of course(
....you have created the Fingered Inuendo
To make the true Randy Inuendo cocktail, I suggest adapting a Brandy Alexander, using Limoncello as the primary - haven't got any here - bugger! I'm sure you lot can be a bit more inventive!
Cheers
Whoops - not a desert, but a dessert
Sorry folks, I'd already been waking Joe...I meant of course, dessert!
Possible option for a "Mason Rocket"
This is an awseome idea! I love it.
Here's my suggestion for a "Mason
Rocket" (sake based). Since Mason's
a "spy extrordinaire," the drink is
martini-esque.
The sake and vodka cancel
each other out, so the flavor is
very, very smooth.
This is based off of the Ginza cocktail
I found on the Fine Living Web site.
1 part vodka
1 part Sake
2 parts sweet and sour (I like frozen
lemonaide mix made with half the amount
of water)
1/2 to 3/4 parts Raspberry liqueur
Shake with ice, strain into martini
glass. Garnish with something sweet,
like a marascino cherry.
I've made it several times before;
it is deceptively smooth...
Mason Rocket
MMMM! that sounds so yummy! I'll try that! Excellent idea and very nice tribute.

I love my geek!
Now that's a Mason with a Rocket!
Hey Carrie, thanks for making the effort! I hereby decree this a Mason Rocket Primo Extrodinaire.
I stick to the "straight" stuff these days, so I'm not the best person to create liquid wonders (which is why I did a dessert!) - glad you had a go.
Cheers
John
You have the power to
You have the power to decree. That's awesome.
Thanks for the compliment.
